Students Organizing Diversity Activities (SODA)
SODA is a cultural programming board that is responsible for the planning and implementation of programs recognizing cultural heritage month programming (i.e., Latina/o Heritage, Black History, GLBT Pride, Native American, Disability, etc.)
Student planners on SODA collaborate with underrepresented student organizations during each month and ensure that the campus community is aware of monthly cultural programming. This group of students will be charged with creating new programming ideas for each celebratory month that are informative, social or educational and/or that relate to social justice.
Students of Color Leadership Symposium
The symposium provides a venue for all students to come together, network, make connections among the different ethnic groups, and gain valuable leadership skills. The symposium addresses the specific leadership needs of a significant college student population on campus. It also puts the perceptions and concerns of students of color at the forefront and seeks to increase and enhance their culturally relevant leadership skills. The inaugural conference will be a one-day, full-immersion, active dialogue on understanding racial identity and its impact on student development and leadership from the perspective of students of color.
Student Diversity Leadership Council (SDLC)
The SDLC builds relationships among student leaders, encourages cultural groups to collaborate, enhances the student leadership experience, increases participation of underrepresented students, improves programs, builds community, and strengthens the student voice on the campus of UNLV. The SDLC is designed to inform the UNLV leadership of the needs of underrepresented groups, the challenges currently facing these groups, and the programming and resources necessary to enhance the intellectual and social life of underrepresented students at UNLV.
