International Student Programming

International Student Programming provides and markets opportunities for international and domestic students to participate in social, educational, and cultural programming that builds both an educational and a supportive network.

International Student Welcome Reception — September and January
This reception provides new international students the opportunity to meet other international students, International Student and Scholars, and Student Diversity Programs and Services staff. Students developed initial connections for other involvement opportunities such as the Buddies Program and the International Council.

Indian Independence Day Ceremony — August
This event gives Indian students an opportunity to celebrate Indian Independence Day. The event, organized by the Indian Student Association, includes a guest speaker as well as the playing of the Indian national anthem.

Buddies Program: Year Round
This friendship/mentoring program matches new international students with American students to create Buddy Groups. The groups assist the international students with their transition to life at UNLV and in Las Vegas and also provide opportunities for all participants to learn about a different culture and/or practice language skills. The Buddy Groups participate in academic and social activities.

International Council: Year Round
The International Council collaborates with international and domestic student organizations to plan and develop cultural, social, and educational programming on campus. This is an opportunity for students to provide leadership to programming within SDPS that impacts campus community.

The following events celebrate different cultures through food, dance, and music:

President's Reception for the International Community — September
The reception provides the opportunity for more than 1,400 UNLV international students and scholars to meet and greet the president and other university officials. The reception also creates an environment through which international students and scholars can develop a connection to the university.

UNLV International Education Week-November
International Education Week emphasizes global understanding and international awareness through a variety of social, educational, and service programming.

International Student Graduation Reception —
May & January

The graduation reception recognizes the accomplishments of international students at UNLV. The program is specifically for graduating international students and their families.
